Our laboratory at the Academy of Natural Sciences is equipped for sampling, processing and identifying macroinvertebrates to the genus level.
We hold genus-level taxonomy certifications from the Society of Freshwater Science.
We have experience using several different state and international sampling and processing protocols.
DNA barcoding and metabarcoding to identify aquatic insects and eDNA for other species present in the watershed are additional tools we use to complement morphological identification for specific study purposes.
All samples undergo internal Quality Assurance/ Quality Control. External QA/QC is often built into larger projects or those with regulatory implications.
To develop collaborative projects, Stef offers grant-writing support with community partners.
We are available for keynotes or presentations on our work with macroinvertebrates, barcoding, river restoration, water quality, climate change effects on freshwaters, Women in Science or the Delaware River Watershed.
We also participate in educational outreach events that teach stream ecology and biodiversity to all ages.
